The VINCI Group has been commissioned to build a brand new power conversion plant (Castigneau Ilot) to expand the electrical capacity of the «Arsenal de Toulon» (83-France) in order to provide more frequency and voltage ranges for ships based in the port
CEGELEC Toulon was prime contractor of the complete projet. OMEXOM Venissieux was in charge of a consequent automation installation with redundant ethernet network, redundant Schneider Premium PLCs, many HMI,... and thousands of signals to treat coming from 4 electric groups, from numerous electrical protection relais, energy counters, fire system, building security, ...
And CB3i was in charge of the complete SCADA system based on Intouch/Archestra/SQL Server.

For CB3i, this project lasted about 18 months in several steps from the first studies to the final commissioning. Most of the tasks were performed from CB3i's office, but frequent missions to LYON and TOULON sites took place, for project analysis, progressive testing, commissioning, training...

Paris Orly Airport has decided to reorganize the network architecture of its building management system (BMS) by adding concentrator PLCs between the Panorama supervision system and the BMS controllers responsible for regulating the various air-handling systems in some halls of the airport.
ETT Paris served as the general contractor for the entire project. Soreel (a Kohler Group company) was commissioned by ETT and ADP to handle the automation work.
And CB3i was in charge of the integration of this new architecture in GTC/BMS PLCs and central SCADA Monitoring system based on Codra Panorama.
  • defining a new classification standard of all type of GTC equipment, including communication map for each type :
    • Centrale de traitement d’air (CTA) → Air Handling Unit (AHU) /
    • Rideaux d’air chaud → Air Curtains (ou Heated Air Curtains)
    • VMC → Mechanical Controlled Ventilation (MCV)
    • Ventilo-convecteurs → Fan Coil Units (FCU)
    • Valves, Pumps, Register
  • analysing each of the existing programming of the 30 Schneider AS-P PLCs, using Ecostruxure Workstation software, to list all useful data to integrate and view on the BMS/GTB Panorama SCADA
  • creating a new standard MODBUS table in each PLC and adding other process and data for sending data to BMS/GTB Pnaorama. These Modbus tables are then read and written from five Schneider M580 PLC concentrators, and then aggregated into an OPC server.
  • updating some Schneider HMI connected to this PLC with Vijéo software
  • connecting Panorama BMS/GTB to the 5 M580 concentrator PLC with OFS protocol.
  • Defining in Panorama BMS/GTB a new complete set of graphical components from scratch for each type of equipment.
  • Defining a new Visual Identity for this set of components and for all the views that will integrates these components and new data
  • Designing all the Panorama views with data extracted from the 30 Schneider AS-P (3 to 5 views per PLC)
  • Integrating of these new components, new views, in the complete ADP Orly SCADA system.
  • Complete Commissioning steps on site (one per M580 concentrator PLC)

Installation of height electrical and water distribution terminals
Each terminal includes until 11 electrical plugs and two water plugs. There is one SIEMENS CPU 1214 and one local HMI per terminal to allow customer to reserve or to free a plug. All electrical plugs integrate an energy counter device connected to PLC through RS485 serial link using MODBUS RTU protocol. In addition, 18 "box" (closed garages), each with an electrical energy meter, are also connected to the Ethernet network using MODBUS TCP protocol.
On this project, CB3i has in charge a new monitoring system installation based on PCVUE V15.
  • creation of a new customer : input form and generation of a csv file per customer
  • extraction of electrical and water consumption for each customer, computed and stored by PLC of each terminal
  • sending and receiving commands from/to PLCs to notify new customer, to suspend customer plug(s), ...
  • manage the electrical consumption of the 18 "box" : reservation and release are directly handled by PCVUE
  • generate and display an HTML report showing current consumptions of a customer (one or several plugs and/or boxes)
  • finalize an existing customer and archive its data and its last HTML report in an ARCHIVE directory
  • one synoptic showing the map of the installation with terminals location and main data. By cliking on a terminal symbol, we can access to more info and act on the terminal and their plugs.
  • one synoptic showing the architecture of the complete ethernet network.
  • Installation diagnosis pages and configuration pages
The VBA scripting language integrated in PCVUE has been intensively used here for file management, punctual extraction of data from the PLC and also to generate HTML reports.

Projects Description :
Each plant incorporates a lot of heavy equipment such as long conveyors, high elevators, large screws for transport and recycling, huge silos to store the finished product (plaster), vibrating extractors, jaw crushers, dust removal systems, ... and above all a huge kiln where the gypsum, the original material, is burned to dry it. Process is driven by numerous direct motors and frequency drives, and controlled by many types of sensors to monitor the entire process throughout the production line: temperature, pressure, speed control, humidity, position detectors, jam detection, etc.
Full Siemens solution:
The automation is based on a complete SIEMENS solution, for CPUs, Switchs, HMI and software programming : TIA PORTAL including Step 7 for PLC, WINCC Advanced for HMis and WINCC Professional for SCADA
CB3i role :
For five of these new plants, CB3i was in charge of the complete SCADA system based on TIA WINCC Professionnal : CB3i participated originally at the long process of designing the first project, and then work also on next projects.
  • realization of the complete programming of WINCC with all the standard SCADA functionalities : synoptics / database / logger / trends / user admin / data export /diagnosis, maintenance and configuration pages but also several specific important functionalities have been programmed with integrated scripting languages VBS and ANSI C-Script...
  • focus on object-oriented programming : Many graphical components and control pop-ups were developed in the initial object-oriented way to speed up the design process with extensive use of UDT structures: aim is to simplify PLC and SCADA exchanges as much as possible. Although this was a major programming task for the first project, it then reduces the design cost of following projects.
  • this object-oriented approach can be also found into the Excel database which generates automatically the WINCC Tags database : 99% of the tags in the project are thus created from this Excel list thanks to macro-commands.
  • this Excel Database alors generates CSV files which are then interpreted and used by WINCC. In these files, we find paramateres that may be changed by customer or integrator after commissioning such as tag designation (translation for instance), input limits for setpoint or other operation parameters, measure unit, storage deadband, analog min and max ranges for the trends, ... : because hard-coding these parameters in WINCC requires to Edit project from TIA, re-generate a Run-Time folder, find a moment to stop operation (and WINCC) in order to install the Runtime folder remotely, we just now have to edit and change the Excel Database, regenerate ASCII Files, copy these files on customer computer remotely, and re-load the file from WINCC maintenances pages without stopping WINCC and plant operation.

AUTOMATION AND SCADA MAINTENANCE OF A POWER PLANT - HONDURAS

In 1998, SEMT Pielstick, a french diesel engine manufacturer, installed a new power plant in Choloma for a total power of 60MW. CB3i was involved since the beginning in the SCADA system and industrial IT installation, but also in automation configurations and controls.
Since many years, CB3i is now in charge of the maintenance and the scalability of the SCADA system and the automation solution. Most of the maintenance tasks are executed remotely, but for major updates, mission on site are organized.

Plant Automation and Supervision/Hypervision architecture :

The drawing above represents a partial view of the complete automation and monitoring installation in the power plant. Many automation devices of differents brands are connected together to a centralized SCADA system :
  • automation device : B&R, WAGO, OPTO22 PLCs, SCHNEIDER ION Meter, SFERE and CHAUVIN ARNOUX network analysers, MOXA gateways, networks converters...
  • industrial networks : one dedicated Ethernet redundant network for automation (a copper ring with 10 MOXA redundant switchs), dedicated copper and optical fiber networks for SCADA server and client computers, several RS485 links for automation device, ...
  • redundant SCADA servers with INSPECT SERVER software on board.
  • many client computers connected to main SCADA servers, either with INSPECT CLIENT specific software or directly with HTML/CSS/Javascript technology
  • one dedicated client computer to act as a data server for hypervision : main power plant data are sent to centralized system in Tegucigalpa where they collect data for many other power plants.
NUCLEAR PLANTS MONITORING :
SCADA INSPECT system is also installed on 13 Emergency Diesel engines in 3 Nuclear Plants in South Korea. CB3i is also in charge of INSPECT software and IT hardware maintenance for MAN Diesel (now Everllence)
We carry out regular retrofits of the IT infrastructure — including hardware, operating systems, software, and sometimes automation devices, to keep the plants aligned with the latest validated IT solutions. Multiple retrofits have already been executed since the original installation at the end of the 1990s (2007, 2015, 2021, next one will come soon)
